10 THINGS PROFESSOR SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR STUDENT

What does professor do in class?



Of course, obviously they teach. But there are certain things that they don't consider and understand on the part of their students. They don't make connections with them. They think that after teaching, it's over. 

Here are the list of 10 things college professors should know about their student. 

Where did I based these stuffs? It is just upon observation and personal experiences. I am a college student and most probably after few years, I'll be graduating too. If my professors will be able to read this post,

I am not here to offend you Ma'am/Sir. I am here to express what I observe during my college years. So here it goes....

1. We don't understand everything


There are some professors who are really intelligent but can't even simplify the topic in class. There are also professors that makes simple topics more complicated. You cannot expect us to memorize everything. Sometimes there are professors who actually give quizzes and exam which are based in powerpoint presentation. Yes of course, they use it during discussion. But there professors who gives exam that looks like "FILL IN THE BLANKS". Fill in the blanks in a way that you have to memorize EVERY SINGLE WORD from the powerpoint or from handouts! Ma'am/Sir, we only memorize those important details and not everything. Sometimes, we rather understand such topic and use our own words on how to simplify it, than memorizing everyday single words without understanding it at all.

2. Let us choose our OWN GROUP

Most of the time, we want to choose our own group. We would rather be with the people who we are comfortable with. It is hard to be with people we don't want to be with. Instead of making a good output at the end, it will just end up making a crappy one. One advantage if we our group with our friends is, we can decide on one thing because we already know them well. We know their strengths and weaknesses. We already know how to adjust. 
Even if we have some misunderstanding in the process we can still overcome it and will be able to fix it as soon as possible.

3. We MIMIC

Most students can relate on this part. Once in our college life, we tend to mimic our professors. Sometimes we can remember our professor easily by their mannerism, how they talk, or even what unique things they usually do in class. There are times when we say, "hey! do you remember MISTHHER PHETHEER?". Where in supposedly his name is MISTER PETER. Sometimes, we, students have code names in every professor. We even draw you at the back of our notebooks (if we have talent in drawing). Ma'am/Sir, we don't do this to make fun of you. There is just something we can't forget about you.

4. Most of us can't wait 3-4 hours WITHOUT EATING


There are professors who make rules that noone should eat inside the classroom! Ma'am/Sir, you don't know how hard it is to stay focused in class if you are hungry. Any sugar content foods keep someone awake in class. It is a fact. We are more alive and focused if we satisfy first our mouth.

5. We also have PERSONAL ISSUES in life

Sometimes, our professor gets mad to us whenever we get low grades. They expect too much. Some of them will even call us dumb whenever we fail. Don't you see, sometimes we have personal issues in life; that this became a hindrance why we can't focus in class. Maybe some of you will think "Why don't you just leave your issues at home". It is never that easy. You say that because you are not in our situation. We have different defense and coping mechanism. We have different ways on how to deal with problems. So please, try to talk to that particular student first before judging them.
You don't know the story behind it. Maybe that student just need help. It is either the problem is with the student or the problem is just with you.

6. Sometimes, we want to be friends with you

I know inside the class we should act students and you also on your part, has to be a professor. We put high respect on you Ma'am/Sir. Sometimes, we also we want to laugh with you. Sometimes, we are really afraid to get near with you and even smile whenever you passes our way. Please don't be resistant with us.

7. Professor is GREATER than the subject itself. 

We students often remember our professor rather than the subject. Sometimes we are eager to come in class because we love the professor. Maybe because he/she is very much good looking. Maybe you can see the enthusiasm of them in teaching. Maybe the professor established good relationship with their students. Maybe he/she is your favorite professor why you come to their class. Sometimes boring and dull subjects can make it more interesting; it just depends on the professor how to make it alive. So to our dear professors, you know what to do!

8. TEAMWORK is different from CHEATING 

Professors call it cheating but we call it teamwork. Sometimes, we just compare our answers but we don't just simply copy one's work. We ask for help from our classmates on how to do this or that.
Ofcourse during exams or quizzes we can be easily accused of cheating. When it comes to seatwork or other activities, we often do it as a group especially if it is so hard to understand. To our dear professors, we know our limitations too. We know how put it on place.

9. MINOR subject is different from MAJOR subject

Every professor must understand that. But of course, student should understand the essence of a particular subject. Some professors who teach minor subject make it more complicated and hard on the part of the students; especially when they are giving requirements and exams. We know that minor subjects are important too, but major is more important.

10. We are not IMMORTAL

We get tired. Sometimes we tend to say "INFORMATION OVERLOAD".
There are some professors who don't give breaks from a 3-4 hours lecture. Sometimes you can see in our eyes that we are already daydreaming and sleeping in our imagination. Most of the time we already look lethargic. Then sometimes you even make fun of us in the whole class. 
You don't know how hard it is to keep us awake. We also need break.

These are just my observation and I repeat, I DON'T DO THIS TO OFFEND ANY PROFESSORS who will be reading this.
